John Ace Obituary John Ace, 80, of 1611 Graydon Avenue, Brainerd died on Monday, May 4th, 2015 at Quiet Oaks Hospice in St. Augusta, Minnesota. Born on October 18, 1934 in Madison, WI to Burdette and Eleanor (Pillar) Ace, he was the youngest of five children. John attended St. Bernard's and Blessed Sacrament grade schools and graduated from Edgewood High School in Madison, Wisconsin. John attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison and the University of Wisconsin-Platteville, graduating from Platteville with a Bachelor of Science in History. John married Joan Murphy on June 8, 1957 in Madison, WI. John served in the Wisconsin Army Reserves and was honorably discharged. John was employed by the Malleable Iron Range company (Monarch) as a Regional Sales Manager for 30 years. He had territories in Minnesota, Wisconsin, North Dakota and Iowa. John and his family settled in Brainerd in 1970. John also worked 14 years as a Customer Service Manager for Stern Rubber Company in Staples, Minnesota and Stern Industries in Brainerd, Minnesota. Upon retirement in 1999, Joan and John traveled extensively in the United States and Europe. John enjoyed sports, especially the Twins, Vikings, and Wisconsin Badgers. For John, family and friendships came first. He loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and friends (and after five minutes everyone was John's friend). Joan and John were members of the St. Andrews Catholic Church for 45 years. John was active as a collection counter and assisted at guild functions and also volunteered with Interfaith Caregivers. John is survived by his wife, Joan; children Sue (Brian) of Flower Mound, TX, Dave (Amy) of Franklin, WI, Steve of Sauk Centre, MN, Jill (Josh) of Anchorage, AK and five grandchildren, Ben, Ryan, Caitlyn, Evan and Jackson. He is also survived by siblings Colonel Robert K. (Bette) of Kennewick, WA and Norris (Judy) of Woodbury, MN and many nieces, nephews and in-laws. John was preceded in death by parents Burdette and Eleanor: brother Keith and sister Donna. Visitation will be Sunday May, 10, 2015 from 2:00-4:00 with a parish prayer service at 3:30 at Nelson-Doran Funeral Home in Brainerd. A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 on Monday, May 11, 2015, at St. Andrews Catholic Church in Brainerd. Rev. Daniel Weiske, Pastor will officiate. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service.
