Marvin Zimmerman Obituary Marvin "Zimm" Zimmerman, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, friend and cherished Nisswa community member passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 6, 2013. He was born on April 16, 1931, in Little Falls, Minnesota to Barbara (Tuzinski) and Max Albert Zimmerman. He was drafted into the U.S. Military in 1952 and served for two years during the Korean Conflict. While in the military and stationed in Arlington, Virginia, he married Irma (Brogdon) on February 13, 1954. In 1958 they moved to Nisswa, Minnesota, where Marvin worked as a linotype operator for Lakeland Color Press in Brainerd. Shortly after, in 1963 he began working at Nisswa Dock Company and purchased the business in 1965. He owned and operated the company for 48 years. Nisswa Dock Company was, is and will continue to be an iconic business in Nisswa. Known as an avid snowmobiler, Marvin was a member of St. Christopher's Catholic Church, the John Deere snowmobile Race Team from 1973 - 1975. He was also president of the Gull Lake Drifters Snowmobile Club, a charter member of the Nisswa Lions Club, a member of the Nisswa City Council, as well as the Nisswa American Legion Post 627. Marvin was a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend to many. He was always doing generous things for his loved ones as well as his community. He was one of the Nisswa community members who helped plan and make the Paul Bunyan Trail a reality. One of his biggest hobbies and something he loved to do was snowmobile. Marvin joked that instead of only putting 6,000 miles on his snowmobile he would put on 10,000 - if only there were enough snow! He also owned enough John Deere clothing to clothe a small country. Marvin could usually be found snowmobiling, working at Nisswa Dock or mowing lawn. Every spring when the docks were all put in, Marvin loved to travel to Canada, to a place with no phone and spend a week fishing. Marvin will always be remembered as a kind, hospitable person, it didn't matter if you were his close family or someone he had just met - he treated you like family. He will be greatly missed, always remembered by and loved by his family, friends and community. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Irma (Brogdon) Zimmerman; children, Pam (Vince) Maurelli, Debbie Zimmerman, Daniel (Pamela) Zimmerman, Dennis (Shannon) Zimmerman; grandchildren, Heather (Joe) Peterson, Heidi (Jerred) Speller, Lucas (Leah) Popp, Andrew Popp, Ashley Zimmerman, Hannah Zimmerman and Shelby Zimmerman and two great grandsons, Oliver and Leon Peterson; and his sister, Marian Smieja. He was preceded in death by his parents, Max and Barbara Zimmerman, sister, Irene Gust and brother, Fred Zimmerman. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 11, 2013 at St. Christopher's Catholic Church in Nisswa with Father George Zeck officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Nisswa with Military Honors provided by the Nisswa American Legion Post 627 Color Guard. Visitation will be held from 5 - 7 p.m. on Wednesday at St. Christopher's Church and will continue the hour before services at the church on Thursday. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to the American Diabetes Society, American Heart Association, or the Gull Lake Drifters Snowmobile Club.
