Obituary

Alvin Norum Obituary Alvin F. Norum, age 87, a resident of Brainerd, passed away Friday, April 26, 2013 at Good Samaritan Society-Bethany. Alvin was born in Hallock, MN November 18, 1925 to Clara (Kolden) and Arthur E. Norum. Al attended school in Thompson Township and graduated in 1943 from the Hallock High School. Alvin enlisted in the US Navy and served at the US Naval Training Center and was aboard the USS Dawn in the Philippines. Al was a member of the American Legion Post #255, Chaplin, Past Commander, Color Guard and was a member of the pool team. He was also a member of First Lutheran Church. His hobbies included wood working, wood carving, model railroading, camping, traveling and collecting stamps, old barn lanterns and other antiques. He married Marge October 14, 1966 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church. She passed away August 2, 2010. He survived by 3 step sons, Randall (Karen) Reither of Brainerd, Barry (Rosie) Reither of St. Cloud and Lee (Laurie) Reither of Minneapolis, 6 grandchildren; Lowell, Steve, Trevor, Alan, Eric, and Kristin, 10 great grandchildren 2 sisters; Ruth Ragsdale, California, Margaret Stone , Florida 1 brother Roy of Golden Valley, MN, 1 niece and 3 nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Marge, parents, sister Esther Gee, brother Clarence, niece Sharon Pena and a grandson Darrell. Funeral services will be Friday, May 3, 2013 at 11:00 AM at the First Lutheran Church with Pastor John Stiles officiating. Military honors provided by the American Legion Post #255. Burial will be at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the services.
