Betty Hornung Obituary Betty K. (Porte) Hornung of Nisswa, MN age 94, passed away peacefully on January 17, 2018. Betty was born at home on July 9, 1923 to Harold and Margaret Porte. Betty worked as a Federal Civil Servant for 35 years and was a Secretary to the Generals of the US Army at the Presidio in San Francisco and in Okinawa, Japan where she met her husband, 1st Lieutenant Colonel Freddie Hornung. Betty cut her career short in 1982 to return to MN to care for her father until his passing in 1992, 105 years young. Nisswa quickly became Bettys home where she developed lifelong friendships. She was a member of the Womens Club, Garden Club, Book Club, and Lutheran Church of the Cross. Betty was a graceful and beautiful woman who loved her family, faith, country, and Scandinavian and Irish heritage. She will be remembered for her profound sense of humor, generosity, and unconditional love. The family sends a special thanks to the nurses, doctors, and dear friend Cheryl who supported Betty through her recent illness. Survivors include her sister-in-law, goddaughter, and many loving nieces, nephews, and friends. Preceded in death by her loving husband, parents, and two brothers. A celebration of Bettys life will be held Saturday, February 10 at Lutheran Church of the Cross. Visitation 10:30, service 11:30. Memorials preferred to Lutheran Church of the Cross 5064 Co.
