Betty Taylor Obituary Betty Ann (Bridge) Taylor peacefully passed away at Glenwood Retirement Village on May 27, 2016 in Glenwood, MN after a long battle with Alzheimers. She was 84.
The oldest of five children, Betty was born on November 21, 1931 in Vinton, IA to her parents, Jesse and Lucy Bridge. After graduating high school, she moved to Cedar Rapids, IA where she worked and met her future husband George. They were married in Des Moines on Christmas Eve in 1955. George was a pharmaceutical sales man until they purchased their first motel in Southern Minnesota, the State Line Motel. In 1960, they bought the Portland Hotel in Henning, MN, where they raised their two daughters, Debra and Cynthia. George and Betty sold the Portland Hotel in 1976 and in 1978 moved to Nisswa where they built their dream home on Nisswa Lake. Betty moved to Carlos, MN in 2000 until she needed long term care in 2004.
Betty enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, winning all family games, playing town softball with her daughters, painting, bowling, cooking and baking, antiquing, Vegas trips and casinos. Another activity she enjoyed was agate hunting on family camping trips and later at local gravel pits with Adam and Kelli, two of her grandkids. Her generosity was always extended to those who were alone, living at the Portland Hotel, for holiday meals, as well as neighbors and friends for coffee and some of her fantastic baking. Tending to her gardens gave her great joy which has been passed on to her daughters and grandchildren.
Betty is survived by her daughters Debra (Dennis) Hillmer of Alexandria, MN and Cynthia (Shawn) Baysinger of Nisswa, MN; her sisters Agnes and Norma Lee; her brothers Robert (Pat) and Allan (Shirley); five grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband George.
Funeral services will be Monday, June 6, 2016 at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Pequot Lakes, MN at 11:00 AM. Visitation preceding the funeral at 10:00 AM.
