Bruce lived life with an easygoing spirit that was impossible not to love

Bruce William Segler, 74, a lifelong Brainerd resident, passed away surrounded by his family, love, and laughter—the very things that defined his life.

Bruce was born on April 4, 1952, to Ray and Jean (Hillman) Segler in Brainerd. After graduating from high school, he began his career with the Burlington Northern Railroad (now BNSF Railway). During a brief layoff, he worked at ARA, where fate introduced him to the love of his life, favorite travel partner, and trusted casino companion, Marlene DeRosier. Together they built a beautiful life, sharing 54 wonderful years of marriage filled with adventure, laughter, and unwavering love.

Bruce eventually returned to the railroad, where he dedicated more than 30 years before retirement opened the door to even more adventures. He and Marlene faithfully made their twice-yearly trips to Las Vegas, where Bruce enjoyed putting his blackjack skills to the test. He also made countless trips to Sturgis, attended numerous car shows, and spent treasured time in South Padre Island, a place they loved so deeply that they created a second family of lifelong friends during their retirement years.

Bruce lived life with an easygoing spirit that was impossible not to love. A gifted prankster with a quick wit and a laid-back personality, he had a way of making every gathering more fun. His sense of humor was contagious, his smile was welcoming, and his adventurous nature inspired those around him to enjoy life a little more fully. Above all else, Bruce cherished his family and friends, and the memories they created together will continue to bring smiles for years to come.

Bruce will be dearly missed by his loving wife of 54 years, Marlene; his mother, Jean Segler; his daughters, Rhonda (Brian Sandell) and Roxie (Steven Sjorgren); his cherished grandchildren, Chaunzi, Nowah, Kaj, Kort, Brooke, and Brianna; his brothers, Leland "Butch" (Rosemary) Segler and Tom (Diane) Segler; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

He was welcomed into eternal peace by his son, Dave Segler, and his father, Ray Segler.

Bruce's legacy is one of laughter, loyalty, adventure, and love. Those fortunate enough to have known him will forever remember the joy he brought into their lives.

Please join Bruce’s family as they honor his life with a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Francis Catholic Church on Monday, August 10, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. Family and friends are invited to gather one hour prior to Mass at the church and Sunday evening from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Nelson – Doran Funeral Home in Brainerd. Interment will take place at Nokay Lake Cemetery.
