Carol G. Tolbert, 69, a lifelong resident of Brainerd, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, August 2, 2026.

Carol was born on December 2, 1956, in Brainerd, the daughter of Kelly Eberly and Carol Isle.

Carol dedicated much of her life to caring for others. Whether out of necessity or from her naturally nurturing heart, she found purpose in taking care of the people she loved. She was one of the hardest-working people her family knew, rarely sitting still and always finding something that needed to be done. Her gentle spirit, unwavering kindness, and ability to love unconditionally left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her.

She found joy in life's simple pleasures. Carol loved listening to Creedence Clearwater Revival and The Beatles, making sure her makeup was just right before heading out, and treating her grandchildren to her famous waffle pizzas. Though she never cared much for having her picture taken, she loved traveling and seeing new places. She was artistic, enjoyed painting, and appreciated the beauty she found along the way.

More than anything, Carol treasured conversation and connection. Whether it was texts with family or the countless hours she spent talking with her grandson after work—sharing stories about life and discussing an endless list of projects and plans—those moments together meant the world to her. Her family will forever cherish the love, laughter, wisdom, and steadfast presence she brought into their lives.

Carol is survived by her daughters, Melissa Rhoads and Andrea Ponder; her grandchildren, Vanessa Hines, Mason Hines, Ava Perdue, and Layne Ponder; her sisters, Marlene Sibbert and Kathy Yezek; her brother, Mike Magnan; nephew, Travis Magnan; and her close cousins, Nora Gamber and Patti Davis.

She was preceded in death by her son, Shawn Hines; her granddaughter, Courtney; her parents; and brother, Sonny Paul Magnan.

Carol's legacy is one of quiet strength, selfless love, and unwavering devotion to her family. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
