Cheryl Hallgren Johnson, age 71, died at Lakewood Health System on Friday, January 9, 2026.

Cheryl was raised in Brainerd and lived her life with a rare mix of selflessness, care, and unmistakable stubborn strength. A true fighter, she faced cancer multiple times with resilience and grit, never allowing it to dim her spirit. Cheryl had a gift for making anything fun—whether through her love of dancing, listening to music (especially Elvis Presley), or simply being present in the moment. She passionately loved her grandchildren, finding her greatest joy in them. Cheryl took pride in her work doing hair, cherishing the connections she built and the confidence she helped others feel. She also had a quiet appreciation for beauty, especially pink sunrises and sunsets, which reflected the warmth and grace she brought into the world.

She is survived by her children, grandchildren, brothers and sister and many nieces, nephews and other family members and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, and her dear cousin, Patti.

In lieu of a memorial service, Cheryl hoped people would remember her by listening to "Brown Eyed Girl," a fitting tribute to her beautiful brown eyes and her love of music.
