Corey Loney Obituary Corey John Loney, age 81 passed away on Monday September 30, 2024, at Edgewood in Brainerd, Minnesota. He was born on February 4, 1943, to Gordon and Rosella Loney in St. Paul, MN. He grew up in Brainerd, MN where he graduated high school. He served in Vietnam in the United States Air Force from 1966 to 1969 as a Data Analyst receiving an honorable discharge. He married his high school sweetheart and best friend Julienne Solheim in 1970. He attended college at St. Cloud State University and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology in 1971. He started his career with the Minnesota Department of Transportation in St. Paul shortly thereafter. In 1975 Corey took a position with MNDOT in Brainerd and he and Julienne moved back to their hometown of Brainerd with their two young boys. Corey was an avid outdoorsman and loved hunting and fishing. He was very active at St. Andrews Catholic Church and loved his Catholic faith. He was very proud of his Norwegian heritage and frequently talked of the Lone farm as the origin of the Loney name. He was a very proud veteran and made it a point to honor his country, flag and fellow veterans. Corey retired in 2001 from MNDOT after working there for 30 years. They enjoyed traveling south in the colder months. He was very proud of his two sons and all their accomplishments. He was especially proud of his five amazing grandchildren. He will be missed by many lifelong friends and his loving family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gordy and Rosie, brothers Bruce and Brian and sister Teala. He is survived by his wife Julienne, his son John (Kristin) Loney of Rushford and son Eric (Jessica) Loney of Baxter. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Evan, Grace, Adam, Ava, Kaia. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, October 4, 2024, at 11am at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Brainerd. Family and friends are invited to gather an hour prior for a visitation, and to stay for a luncheon to follow. Private family interment at Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery.
