Corey Peterson Obituary Corey S. Peterson, age 36, of Brainerd passed away Sunday, May 5, 2024, as the result of a motor vehicle accident. Memorial Service will be held at the First Baptist Church in Baxter on Friday, May 24, 2024, at 11:00 am. Family and friends are invited to gather one hour prior for visitation. Corey was born November 12, 1987, in Brainerd; the son of Stephen Peterson and Katherine Besmehn. He was the oldest of his siblings; Corey was often independent and stubborn but cared about his family beyond words. He is a 2006 graduate of Brainerd High School. Corey started learning the carpentry trade with his father Steve; until becoming self-employed. He enjoyed new challenges and teaching his dad new tricks to get the job done. Corey was protective and supportive of his siblings. He was a kid at heart and loved playing with his nephews. Corey enjoyed bow hunting, tinkering, and sharing a great laugh with friends and family. He led his own life and never followed a crowd; Corey will be best remembered for his hard work, kindness, great sense of humor, and his shining personality. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Corey is survived by his loving parents, Steve (Robyn Jurek) Peterson and Kathy Besmehn; fianc, Kelly Kuschel; siblings, Nick Peterson, Ariel (Garyck) Ellingson; nephews, Taieton, August, Jaxson, Grayson; paternal grandparents, Gary and Cathy Peterson; aunts and uncles, Cheryl (Dohn) Pagel, Rick Besmehn, Pat (Marilyn) Besmehn, Tom Besmehn, Tim (Marcia) Besmehn, Lauri Besmehn, and John Besmehn. He is preceded in death by his maternal; Grandparents, Richard and Lois Besmehn; aunts, Robin Goetz, Veronica "Ronnie" Besmehn; uncle, Steve Besmehn; and cousin, Brady Besmehn.
