Darla and Norm built a life full of love, laughter, and adventure.
Darla Moser, 90, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 19, 2026, at Vitality Living in Aitkin, Minnesota.
A Celebration of Darla's Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 29, 2026, at Nelson-Doran Funeral Home in Brainerd. Family and friends are invited to gather one hour prior to the service and stay for a light lunch to follow. Private interment will take place at Riverside Cemetery.
Darla was born on March 5, 1936, in Fertile, Minnesota, the daughter of Lloyd and Gladys (Duckstad) Benbo. After graduating, she began working at a local restaurant in Fertile. It was there that a handsome lineman named Norman Moser walked through the door and stole her heart. That chance encounter began a beautiful love story that would span 54 years of marriage.
Together, Darla and Norm built a life full of love, laughter, and adventure. They moved more than a few times, raised their family, enjoyed square dancing, and shared their love of cooking lefse and lutefisk. Through it all, they simply lived life well, making memories and friendships wherever life took them.
Her relationship with God was at the forefront of her life, guiding her words, her actions, and the way she loved others.
Darla had a creative spirit and enjoyed painting, but her greatest masterpiece may have been the life she created and the people she welcomed into it. She made friends easily, never turned down a good shopping trip or adventure, and took great joy in staying involved in the lives and activities of her family. She was loving and generous with her huge, welcoming smile, but she was also blunt, strong-willed, determined, and sharp as a whip. You always knew where you stood with Darla! And, if you ever received a handwritten note from her, you knew she had some of the most beautiful penmanship around.
Above all, Darla was a woman of deep and abiding faith. Her relationship with God was at the forefront of her life, guiding her words, her actions, and the way she loved others. She especially treasured conversations about Scripture, particularly the Book of Psalms, finding comfort and meaning in its words. It seems only fitting that when her earthly journey came to an end, she did so quietly, taking His hand and following Him home.
Darla will be dearly missed by her children, Deborah (Kurt) Peterson, Robin (Diane) Moser, Sandra (Geary) Moser, and Scott (Sheila) Moser; eleven grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; thirteen great-great-grandchildren; her brother, Rodger Benbo; and many extended family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Norm; and grandson, Adam Trask.
Memorials are preferred to Riverside Cemetery.
Darla's family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the wonderful staff at Vitality Living of Aitkin for the compassionate care, kindness, and welcoming smiles they shared with Darla. Your warmth and thoughtfulness brought comfort to Darla and her family, and they are truly grateful for the difference you made in her life.
