Obituary

Darrell Tougas Obituary Darrell David Tougas, age 61, passed away March 4, 2024, at Carefree Living after a long battle with Ataxia. Darrell was born on March 18, 1962, in Brainerd, MN. He was a beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend. Darrell grew up enjoying the outdoors, spending time with friends, motorcycle and four-wheeler riding, snowmobiling, fishing, and attending races at North Central Speedway. He later took pleasure in horseback riding with friends. He took pride in raising and taking care of his animals, and especially cherished his dogs Louie and Miller. Darrell graduated from Brainerd High School and worked for many years at Thelen Heating and Roofing. After his Ataxia progressed and he could no longer work, he found fulfillment in riding his side by side, trapping gophers, visiting with family and friends, and continuing to help on the family farm. Darrell always had a smiling face and was always willing to help anyone that he could. Darrell will be deeply missed by those that knew him, and his memory will live on in the hearts of those he touched. Darrell is survived by siblings Lory (Robert) Miller of Mesa AZ; Linda Tougas of Stacy, MN; Roland Tougas and Kyle (Susan) Tougas of Fort Ripley, MN; and Janet (Craig Billman) Tougas of Brainerd, MN; as well as many nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews; aunts; uncles; and cousins. Darrell was preceded in death by his parents, Gertrude, and Ian Tougas; Grandparents Alva and Enza Tougas and Charles and Mable Holsapple, as well as several aunts, uncles, and cousins. A Celebration of Life will be held at Nelson-Doran Funeral Home on Saturday June 29th from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. with a luncheon being served. Following the service his ashes will be interred at St. Mathias Cemetery. In lieu of flowers or donations to the family, memorials are preferred to the National Ataxia Foundation (NAF) or St. Jude's Children's Hospital. Arrangements are being made by Nelson Doran Funeral Home in Brainerd. The family would like to express our deepest appreciation to Carefree Living and St. Croix Hospice for their care of Darrell.
