David Yde Obituary

David E. Yde, of Brainerd, passed away on September 13, 2025, at the age of 84, after a life devoted to family, friends, and community. He was born on January 26, 1941, to Peter and Lena Yde.

After graduating high school, David enlisted in the United States Army, serving two years. His time in the service instilled in him a steadfast commitment and strong work ethic that defined the rest of his life. Upon returning home to Brainerd, he drove a school bus for a few years before beginning a 39-year career with Potlatch. In addition, he and his brother, Paul, founded Yde's Appliances, and David later operated Giant Wash Laundromat for more than 20 years. He also managed rental properties with fairness and integrity—always ensuring that tenants were treated with respect.

David was a man of character and loving stubbornness, whose interests reflected his unique personality. He enjoyed traveling, spending time in Texas, Hawaii, and the Bahamas. He had a deep appreciation for classic convertibles, preferring them in their original, unmodified condition. A regular at local restaurants, David valued time spent over a shared meal.

David is survived by his son, Jerry (Paula) Steininger; daughter, Deanna Steininger; grandsons, Jared (Samantha Risnes) Steininger, Josh Steininger, and Jake Steininger; granddaughters, Brittany (Ross) Duval and Jessica (Eric) McGuire; nephews, Marty, Ken, Brad, Robert, Peter,III, and Neil; nieces, Julia, Jeannie, and Sharon; along with many beloved great-nieces and nephews, especially Keith and Chad.

He was preceded in death by the love of his life, Della; his brothers, Peter, Jr., Paul, and Donald (Cheeri); his sister, Margery (Reuben) Root; nephews, Paul Jr. and Tim; and his parents, Lena and Peter.

A Celebration of David's Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 25, 2025, at Nelson–Doran Funeral Home in Brainerd, with visitation beginning one hour prior. A luncheon will follow. Interment with Military Honors will take place at Sylvan Lake Township Cemetery.
