Dorothy Svenvold Obituary Dorothy Jean Svenvold, 96, of Brainerd, formerly of Coon Rapids and Pillager, died Sunday, June 2, 2024, at her daughter, Sue's home. A celebration of Dorothy's Life will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 12, 2024, at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in Baxter. A visitation will begin one hour prior to services. A luncheon will follow. Interment will take place at Wildwood Cemetery in Pillager. Dorothy was born September 30, 1927, in Cook County, Illinois, the daughter of August and Myrtle {Hahn) Haaker. After high school, Dorothy worked at an insurance company where she met the love of her life -Aaron Simons. The two married and spent many years caring for foster children and young mothers, before adopting their daughters - Sue and Sarah. Dorothy was the ultimate caregiver and going back to nursing school was the obvious choice. She enjoyed many years as a school nurse and later at Abbott Northwestern, where she was part of their Private Home Care team, as well as local nursing homes in the Brainerd area. Dorothy had a love of life. She enjoyed traveling with her husband and daughters, reading as many books as she could devour, and listening to old music. Later in life, she could spend hours finding words in one of the Word Search books her daughter bought for her or shopping for new shoes or hats. She was a fashionista who prided herself in feeling and looking good. Above all, Dorothy's strong Faith and BIG heart were the cornerstones of her life. She will be dearly missed by her sister, Patricia {Roger) Schmieg; daughters, Sue DeWolf and Sarah Simons; grandchildren, Samantha Simons, Joseph {Layla) Simons; great-grandchildren, Jacxon Simons, Torvi Simons, and Lyric Davis; great-great-grandchildren, Matthew Davis; cherished family caregiver, Delerie Ausland; and special friend, Kathy Carlson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Aaron Simons; second husband, Ernie Svenvold, son in law, Rick DeWolf, and parents, August and Myrtle. A special Thank You to St. Croix Hospice and especially to Megan and Breanna for their exceptional care of Dorothy. Memorials are preferred to Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church or Babinski Foundation.
