He was happiest when he was outside, whether hunting, fishing, putzin’ around in the garage, or lending a hand to a neighbor butchering a cow or pig.
Duane R. Kohl, 84, of the Brainerd Lakes Area, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
Family and friends are invited to gather and celebrate Duane’s life on Friday, October 30, 2026, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Nelson-Doran Funeral Home in Brainerd. A short prayer service will follow at 6:00 p.m.
Born and raised in Fort Ripley, Duane developed a lifelong love for the outdoors. He was happiest when he was outside, whether hunting, fishing, putzin’ around in the garage, or lending a hand to a neighbor butchering a cow or pig. He was never one to shy away from a little work, especially when it meant helping someone else.
Above all, Duane was devoted to his family. He treasured the time spent with his children and grandchildren, from camping adventures when they were young to following their activities and taking an interest in their lives as they grew older. No matter their age, he remained a loving and involved presence in their lives.
His gentle nature, quiet love, and the memories he created with those closest to him will be dearly missed.
Duane was a genuinely sweet man with a kind heart and a willingness to help others. Of course, those who knew him best might also admit he had a stubborn streak now and then! But that was simply part of what made Duane, Duane. His gentle nature, quiet love, and the memories he created with those closest to him will be dearly missed.
Duane is survived by his daughter, Michelle (Brian) Blaeser; son, Kevin Kohl; significant other, Barb Coffman; many beloved grandchildren; and siblings, Diane Johnson and Allen Kohl.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sharon; daughters, JoAnn Witt, Wendy Lindberg, and Kimberly Kohl; and sons, Doug and Brian Kohl.
Memorials are preferred to the family.
