Eric Boberg Obituary Eric James Boberg of Lake Hubert left his body behind and flew to Jesus on August 24, 2025. Eric battled cancer for many months, even before his diagnosis. During the last months of his life, Eric said that having cancer was all worth it, for it drew him nearer in his relationship with God. Eric was born to James and Gloria Boberg. He grew up at Lake Hubert, where his parents, assisted by Eric and his siblings, operated a small summer resort called Beachland Cottages. A pivotal moment of Erics life came during the summer before his senior year in high school when Eric responded to Jesus invitation to forgive his sins and give him a new life. Eric was never the same after that. What followed was a senior year at Brainerd High School that was especially memorable. Eric, who was active in competitive speech and debate, won the state championship in the discussion category. Eric gave God the glory for this. During and after high school, Eric worked at Boberg Lumber with his dad and uncle. He then attended Brainerd Community College and the University of Minnesota, where he studied English literature. While living in Minneapolis, Eric spent many years caring for a quadriplegic man. Eric eventually returned to Lake Hubert, gradually taking over resort operations as his parents retired. Eric strived to show Gods love and kindness to all his summer resort guests. Many guests became lifelong friends. Erics family would sometimes remark that Beachland was merely a way for Eric to get his friends to visit him every year. He had an easy way of getting into meaningful conversations with people. Eric wanted everyone to know Jesus and to experience the love that had changed his life. Other passions of Erics included alpine and nordic skiing, biking, home design, and nature. He loved to introduce people to beautiful things and experiences. Eric felt that getting people into natures beauty was getting them one step closer to a relationship with God. Eric also helped nurse both his parents in the final years of their lives. About four years ago, Eric joined Pine Mountain Gospel church in Backus, Minnesota. Eric was excited about the churchs vision of a recovery ministry for women, and he became part of the ministry through practical work, financial gifts, and prayer. A house was purchased, and Eric and others made it into a safe home for women transitioning out of treatment programs. He participated in the weekly mens prayer group, recovery meetings, and served as an elder at the church. Eric was active in prayer for many people in the community. The work at Pine Mountain Gospel Church was a favorite topic of conversation for Eric. Preceding Eric in death are his parents, James and Gloria Boberg. Eric is survived by his three siblings; Lori (Pierre) Gingerich-Boberg, John (Mary Kay) Boberg, and Dan (Lynn) Boberg, along with nine nieces and nephews. A memorial celebration of Erics life is planned for September 13th at Pine Mountain Gospel Church in Backus, MN. Visitation is at 10am and the service is at 11am, with lunch to follow.
