Ethel Nelson Obituary Ethel M. Nelson, age 99, passed away on August 6, 2024, at her home in Brainerd. She was born May 8, 1925, in Elkton S.D. to Alex and Marie (McMahill) Gorman. Ethels family moved to Pine River area where she grew up and graduated from High School. Early in her life, she along with her sister Edith worked at the ammunitions plant in New Brighton during WWII. On September 8, 1946, Ethel married Marlyn J. Nelson and soon after that they moved to Brainerd to live long term, they built a house on Rice Lake which they enjoyed for over thirty years. Ethel worked in the food industry for many years as a hostess and waitress. She traveled on many vacations throughout this Country, Europe and the Caribbean with Marlyn and friends. Ethel was a long-time member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church where she participated with Young at Hearts and Bible study groups, she also was a member and volunteer at the Senior Center. She will be missed by her many friends and relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and five siblings. Ethel is survived by her daughter Corliss Smith; son Donald (Marci) Nelson, six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held 11:00 am Friday September 6, 2024, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Brainerd with Rev. Mark Skinner officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Memorial Gardens. A visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church.
