Fred Mertens Obituary Frederick "Fritz" J. Mertens passed away peacefully in his own home Saturday, April 9, 2016. Fritz was born on November 19, 1931 in Minneapolis to Emil and Isabel (Hayes) Mertens. Beloved father and grandfather to Colleen (Cal) Boeder and their children Jeremy and Melissa; Cherri (B0b) Hannahs and their children Aimee and Ashley; Eileen Borg and her children, Taylor, Tiffany and Jacob, and John Mertens and his daughter Aubrianna, and loving great grandfather to nine great grandchildren. He was a skilled carpenter, avid outdoorsman and long standing supporter of NRA and Boy's Clubs of America. He was a devoted husband to his wife Pamela who preceded him in death along with his parents, Emil and Isabel Mertens, sister Adelaide Kohl, brother Marv Mertens and son Chad Boileau. Services will be held 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 15, 2016 at First Lutheran Church in Brainerd with Pastor Jim Rogers officiating. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 4-7 p.m. at Nelson-Doran Funeral Home in Brainerd and will continue the hour prior to services at the church on Friday.
