George Wilson Obituary George C. Wilson of San Diego, CA went to join his beloved wife Gladys (Bedal) in Heaven on March 5, 2012. Born in Los Angeles on July 7, 1923 to George Wilson Sr. and Lillie (Peterson) Wilson. George graduated from Inglewood HS in June of 1941 as President of the Senior Class. He was awarded a Mechanical Engineering scholarship to the University of Southern California. After graduation in October 1944 he was commissioned in the US Navy as an ensign through the V-12 program. He completed Midshipman School at Columbia University and Aviation Ordinance School on Jacksonville, FL. At the close of WII George returned to USC to obtain his Masters degree and was awarded an assistant professorship. In June of 1956 he joined General Dynamics-Convair in San Diego and worked as a thermodynamic engineer on the Atlas Centaur rocket. The Atlas program grew into the modern day space program and George played a vital role in both the National Defense and putting men in space. After retirement George and Gladys enjoyed retirement in the Brainerd Lakes area of Minnesota and enjoyed playing tennis, singing in the Choir at Cross Lake Lutheran Church and acted as treasurer for the Mission Lakes Association. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Gladys, and sister, Thelma Wilson (Dew). He is survived by his daughter, Terri (Pat) Arter, son, Scott Wilson, grandson, Michael Arter and granddaughter, Melina Wilson of San Diego, CA. Services will be held at 11:00 am. on Saturday March 17, 2012 at the Nelson-Doran Funeral Home in Brainerd, MN with the pastor James Rogers officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to services. Burial will be in the Mission Cemetery in Mission Township. In lieu of flowers the family asks for donations to the Meals on Wheels Program of Crosby, MN
