Gilbert Williams Obituary Gilbert Thomas Williams age 75, passed away peacefully surrounded by family November 30th, 2023, at Mercy Hospital in Coon Rapids after a very brief battle with cancer. Gil was born December 28th, 1947, in St. Paul, MN to Glidden and Gladys (Gilertson) Williams. Gil grew up in Cambridge, MN along with his brother, Lee where he enjoyed fast cars, hanging out with friends, and finding mischief wherever he could. In 1970 Gil married Mary Lou Nelson and together they raised three children; Tracy, Charity, and Dylon, losing an infant son Travis at 2 months old. Gil enjoyed many hobbies including fishing, hunting, demolition derbies, snowmobiling, motorcycle riding, and even a little car racing. He also enjoyed broomball with a mens league and coaching youth hockey. Being around people and making friends came easily which seemed to fit right into his career path. He worked in various jobs from construction, bus driving, over the road truck driving to even an ISS teacher at Mora High School. He retired from Metro Bus Company out of St. Cloud on July 20th, 2018. Gil met his sweetheart Cheryl Gunderson Plouffe, and they had their first date on May 15th, 2019. This began the blossoming love of travel and just spending time doing the things they both enjoyed. During the summer he would work at Craguns Resort on Gull Lake then spend his winter in the South, first in Texas then moving to Louisiana where he and Cheryl found a little piece of heaven on earth to enjoy at Grande Isle. He enjoyed fishing, visiting, and the many sites and treats the area offered. Gil and Cheryl traveled to many places, most recently to Europe for 3 weeks. He enjoyed and loved to travel and was lucky enough to find a person who shared the same interests. Gil is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Lou; infant son, Travis; parents, Glidden and Gladys Williams; and brother, Lee Williams. In-laws, Hilding and Elma Nelson; brothers-in-law, Dale Greenwald, Dale Reynolds, and Dick Weinreich. Gil is survived by his daughters, Tracy (Guy) Knudson of Zimmerman, Charity (Kyle) Stanchfield of Quamba and son, Dylon (Kim) Williams of Mora; five grandchildren, Mikayla and Matthew Knudson and Coryna, Mallory, and Ty Stanchfield. Partner, Cheryl Gunderson Plouffe; sisters-in-law, Sue Williams of Rock Creek, Louisa Greenwald of Maple Grove, Dorothy (David) Meineke of Hibbing, and Nancy Weinreich of Cambridge. Many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, December 9, 2023, at Lord of Life Lutheran Church in Baxter. Family and friends are welcome to start gathering one hour prior to services. Interment will be held at a later date. There will be an opportunity for friends in the Mora area to also gather on Friday, December 8 from 5-8:00 p.m. At St. Mary's Parish Center.
