Harlen Amundson Obituary Harlen Everett Amundson, most devoted and loving husband of Janet and "a little bit better than outstanding" father of Kari, Pam and Jill, age 76 of Nisswa, went to his Lord on Saturday December 5, 2015. He passed away peacefully in the arms of his three daughters while overlooking Edna Lake. Harlen was born on December 20, 1938 in Whitehall, WI, and grew up on a dairy farm south of Osseo, WI. Harlen graduated from Osseo Lincoln High School, and received a B.S. degree at Wisconsin State University in Eau Claire, WI and a M.A. degree in Mathematics from Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, Ohio. Harlen married Janet Larson on August 5, 1961 in Colfax, WI, and started his career by teaching mathematics and science at Greenwood High School in Greenwood, WI. He was called up by the Wisconsin National Guard during the Cuban missile crisis for ten months. He returned to teaching high school again, and then went to graduate school. His first position after graduate school was with the engineering department in Deere & Co. in Moline, IL. He enjoyed working at Deere & Co., but they did not care for living in Moline, IL, so after one year, the family moved to the Twin Cities where Harlen was employed by the Ford Motor Co. starting in the engineering department, and was promoted to senior management positions. After eighteen years in St. Paul, he was transferred to Dearborn, MI and completed his career at Ford. After retiring from Ford he and his wife moved to Nisswa, MN and lived on Gull Lake. Harlen formed a consulting business and had contracts with Ford, GM, and several other companies in the U.S. as well as contracts with Ford, Land Rover and other companies in Europe and South America. He made numerous trips to Europe and South America, and his wife Janet accompanied him several times to Europe. Harlen cherished time with his family, especially holidays and summer gatherings at the lake. He faithfully and lovingly cared for Janet through her extended illness with Alzheimer's disease. Harlens captivating presence impacted people wherever he went. He will be greatly missed. Harlen was preceded in death by his parents Harry and Agnes, and is survived by wife Janet, and children Kari, Minneapolis, Pamela (Joel) and grandchildren Erik, Caroline, Grace and Karl of Richfield, OH, and Jill (Matthew) and grandchildren Sophia and Garrett of Scarborough, ME, brother Dale (Shirley) and sister Donna. Celebration of Life Service will be 11:00 AM Saturday January 9, 2016 at Lutheran Church of the Cross in Nisswa, MN. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service with burial at Memorial Garden at the Lutheran Church of the Cross. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Lutheran Church of the Cross.
