Irving Burton Obituary Irving G. Swede Burton passed away peacefully at home on April 3, 2019.
He is survived by his children, Connie Robertson (Paul) of Wilsonville, OR, Vicki Burton (Brent) Breithaupt of Laramie, WY, Richard of Brainerd and Julie (Jim) Nordin of Baxter; grandchildren, Nicholas (Paula) Robertson, Andrew (Celeste) Robertson, Thomas Nordin, and Joseph Nordin; great grandchildren, Henry, John, and Natalie Robertson; sister, Donna Stephens; sister-in-law, Katie Burton and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by parents, Omer and Katherine Burton; siblings and their spouses, Amos-Jay (Alma), Lester (Margaret), Loretta-Jane (Reginald) Innes, Charles (Beatrice), Minor-Bud, Katherine-Midge (Ray) Larson, and brother-in-law, Allen Stephens.
Swede graduated from Brainerd High School in 1943. He joined the army and spent time in the European theatre, Battle of the Bulge, the concentration camp liberation, and was sent to Italy for Japanese invasion preparation. After WWII, he typed discharge papers for the troops returning home in 1946. Upon returning home, he was part of Burton Brothers as an electrician. In 1962, he went on his own to form Burt Electric, retiring in 1988. Swede spent his retired years enjoying golfing, watching football, going to Army reunions, reading, and spending time with his family.
Services will be held 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 17, 2019 at Nelson-Doran Funeral Home with Pastor Steve Benson officiating. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery with Military Honors provided by Brainerd American Legion and V.F.W. Color Guard. Arrangements with Nelson-Doran Funeral Home.
