James Kounkel Obituary James L. Kounkel, age 86, resident of Fort Ripley, died Saturday, May 3, 2014 at Essentia Health - St. Joseph's Medical Center in Brainerd. Jim was born February 22, 1928 in Lamars, Iowa to Arthur H. and Alvina (Erbes) Kounkel. Jim married Delores Hoffman on March 6, 1948 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hinton, Iowa. Jim retired after 37 years with the paper mill. He was a U.S. Army veteran, a First Responder, a V.F.W., Color Guard Member, a life member of the V.F.W., the last mans club and a musical volunteer at schools, nursing homes and events at the V.F.W. Survivors include his children; Susan (Ron) Ebinger, Arthur (Becky) Kounkel, Mary (Carl) Carner, grandchildren; Rhonda (Matt) James, Christine (Mark) Sheflo, Trevor (Tammy) Ebinger, Joseph Kounkel, Amy (John) Feriancek, Lea Kounkel-Waller, Sara (Michael) Beach and Richard (Amy) Maske, great grandchildren; Scotty, Amanda, Zachary, Alyssa, Eryn, Kaylin, Taylor, James, Thomas, Lydia, Hailey, Jacob, Gavin, Colton, Cari, Snuffy, Cati, Mason, Spencer, Emma Jean, great great grandchild Charlie. Preceded in death by his wife Delores, grandson James, parents, brothers and sisters George, Samuel, Florence Brumberg, Eddie Dryburgh and Pearl Severt. Funeral Services will be held 11:00 am Thursday, May 8th at the Riverside Union Church with Reverend Harvey Peterson officiating. Burial with Military Honors provided by the Brainerd V.F.W. Post 1647 will be at the Evergreen Cemetery in Brainerd. Visitation times are Wednesday from 5-8:00 pm at the Nelson-Doran Funeral Home in Brainerd and one hour prior to Services Thursday at the Church.
