Jason Powers Obituary Jason Monroe Powers was born on August 7, 1980, in Brainerd MN. He passed away on May 14, 2025, in Brainerd, MN after a short illness. A gathering in honor of Jason will be held on Friday, May 23, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Nelson-Doran Funeral Home. A reception will be held at The Local 218 immediately following the gathering, where Powers dedicated himself for nearly ten years with a commitment to excellence that touched everyone who walked through our doors. We will be offering a taco buffet free of charge to those in attendance. In celebration of Powers' over two years of sobriety, alcohol will not be served at this reception.
Jason graduated from Brainerd High School in 1999. He enjoyed baseball, football, camping, fishing, reading and biking as a child. He also loved music and drove his parents nuts with his loud rock that he preferred. He also loved good music and had a wide variety of old and new in his collection. He also loved to read as an adult. He loved collecting agates and coins. After high school he began his cooking career at numerous Brainerd restaurants. He was employed at the 218 restaurant at the time of his passing. Jason had a hearty laugh and gave joy to many of his co-workers and customers. He really did see the best in other people. His laugh will be missed by many.
Jason struggled with alcohol for much of his adult life. He found sobriety for over two years before he passed. Jason found golf in recent years. He loved to play the area courses and often traveled to other challenging courses to further his game. He played on simulators during the winter months and bought great clubs to improve his score. Golfing, reading, and cooking were his happy places.
Jason is survived by his parents Deb and Jeff Powers, his brother Tony (Mara) and his sister Emily (Emily). He is also survived by his only son Thorin.
The world will be a much quieter place without his infectious laugh that will live with us forever.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Second Harvest Food Bank.
