Jeanne Olson Obituary Jeanne (Vahda) Olson, age 84, resident of Brainerd, passed away on Thursday, October 31, 2013 at her home. Born August 13, 1929 to Harry and Ruth (Free) Zimmerman in Marshfield, Wisconsin. She lived for awhile in Neillsville, Wisconsin. Her father opened a Variety Store in Madelia, Minnesota in the early 1930's and she graduated from Madelia High School in 1947. She received her degree from Macalester College in 1951 in Business education. She taught in Aitkin, Minnesota where she met Melvin E. (Butch) Olson and they were married June 5, 1953. From there she taught in Bagley, Minnesota until they moved to Brainerd, where she tutored and worked at the AEC until she retired in 1986. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Eastern Star. She loved to garden, knit and travel, until her grandchildren were born. Then she loved to spend time helping and watching them grow up. She is preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and two brothers. Jeanne is survived by one sister and brother-in-law, Hope and Dave Warren, Charlottesville, Virginia; three children, Ruth (Scott) Erickson, Jordan, Minnesota, Becky Olson, Brainerd, Minnesota, and William "Bill" (Mary) Olson, Baxter, Minnesota; Two grandchildren, Alexandria (Lexie) Erickson and Cameron Olson. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Services will be held 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 14, 2013 at First Congregational Church with Pastor Linda Crowe officiating. Burial will be in Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery. In lieu of flowers please give memorials to the Legion Auxiliary, Eastern Star or First Congregational Church or the charity of your choice.
