Jerome (Jerry) Schmehl, Crosslake, MN, passed away peacefully at the age of 86 on June 28th, 2026, in Brainerd, MN.

Jerry was born on November 26,1939 in Pine City, Minnesota, to John and Margaret Schmehl. He graduated from Stillwater High School in 1957 and developed an early passion for the automotive field. He began his career working at Bud's Standard and Stillwater Motors, where he became a certified automotive mechanic.

Dedicated to serving his country, Jerry joined the Minnesota National Guard in Stillwater in 1956 and proudly served for 11 years.

After earning his bachelor's degree from the University of Minnesota, Jerry began the next chapter of his career as Director of Automotive Programs at Anoka Technical School. There, he established four new automotive training programs, helping shape the education of future technicians. In 1985, he earned his Master of Business Administration from the University of St. Thomas. He later joined the Minnesota Board of Vocational Education, where he oversaw statewide efforts in new program development, school construction, and operations.

Outside of his professional accomplishments, Jerry enjoyed many hobbies and adventures. He was a member of the Crosslake Legion and the Brainerd Elks. He loved flying his Cessna182, playing golf, and serving as president of the pickleball association in Sun City, Arizona. Jerry's favorite moments were spent riding his Honda Gold Wing motorcycle, enjoying a Northwoods campfire with family and friends, and doing the "twist" on a dance floor with Susie.

Jerry will be deeply missed by his partner, Susie Wright; daughter, Corrine (William) Yee; bonus children; Steve (Susan) Bakken, Jenny Wise, Joni (Scott) Benson, Doug (Julie) Wright; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Sue Keithahn; his son-in-law, Ron Wise; and his grandchild, Mason Espeseth.
