Obituary

Joan Sharon Hradsky, 85, of Brainerd, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on May 4, 2026, at her beloved home on the lake—a place that brought her great joy.

Born and raised in Sebeka, Joan graduated from high school and went on to build a long and meaningful career in healthcare administration. She especially cherished her years at Northern Orthopedics in Brainerd, where her coworkers—particularly Dr. Pete—became like family.

Joan's life was centered around the family she built with the love of her life, Wesley Hradsky. The two were married in 1960 and were blessed with three children who kept her on her toes. She kept up beautifully, thanks to her quick wit, endless patience, and—on occasion—her willingness to serve as a well-timed alibi for her sons.

Life on the lake suited Joan perfectly. She found joy in tending her flowers, there was never quite enough—and in the steady arrival of packages at her door. Whether from QVC or HSN, they often came with free shipping and a return label, though returning them wasn't always part of the plan. Joan loved to shop, but even more, she loved giving. She delighted in spoiling those around her, sharing her generous spirit in big and small ways.

Christmas was her favorite time of year. She took special pleasure in wrapping gifts—sometimes more than once—just so she could fully enjoy the moment. After all, she liked to know exactly what was inside. And when it came to secrets, it was best to keep them well out of earshot.

Joan had a lively mind and a love for conversation. She enjoyed talking through every perspective, always curious and engaged. Her warmth, humor, and bright presence made her a light in the lives of all who knew her, and she will be deeply missed.

She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Wes; children, Laurie Ann (Jim) Miller, Randy (Theresa) Hradsky, and Tim (Laurie) Hradsky; her grandchildren, Jacob (Alex) Hradsky, Abby (Jon Settergren) Hradsky, and Taylor (Kristen) Hradsky; her great-grandson, Wesley "Lil Wes" Hradsky; her brother, Jim (Heidi) Kramer; brother-in-law, Fred Wehrs, and sister-in-law, Janet Kraemer.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Berniece Wehrs; and her brother, Bruce Kraemer.

A Celebration of Joan's Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 8, 2026, at Nelson-Doran Funeral Home in Brainerd. Family and friends are invited to gather one hour prior to the service, with a luncheon to follow. Interment will take place at Evergreen Cemetery.
