John Doshan Obituary John Michael Joseph Doshan, affectionately known as JD, Johnny, Dad, Grandpa, and Gramp-animal, passed away peacefully on August 15, 2025, in Orlando, Florida, at the age of 78. He died peacefully in his sleep surrounded by his loving family. Born on January 31, 1947, in Brainerd, Minnesota, John was a proud graduate of Washington High School, Class of 1965. Shortly after, he answered the call to serve his country, enlisting in the United States Army. He completed two tours in Vietnam from 1966 to 1968 and was honorably discharged later that year. Johns deep sense of patriotism and dedication to service never wavered. In June 1969 John began his long career at Northwest Paper Company which later became Potlatch. He worked as a Machine Operator and Safety Coordinator until Potlatch closed in 2002. In 1975, he earned his Associate of Arts degree from Brainerd Community Collegea proud accomplishment. In 2003, John relocated to Orlando, Florida, to be closer to family. It was there that he began a new chapter, starting a second career in car sales at David Maus Toyota. There, he quickly became a well-known and respected figure in the Central Florida auto industry. Known simply as 'JD'; he was a natural people persongenuine, charismatic, and always ready with a warm smile. His dedication earned him numerous awards, but more than that, he earned the admiration and friendship of colleagues and customers alike. John had a passion for golf and once had the incredible opportunity to play with Arnold Palmer at Bay Hillan experience he cherished for the rest of his life. He also had a remarkable gift for making friends wherever he went. Whether across the street or across the country, his neighbors and community became like family. He is survived by his loving siblings Joanne (Bob) Johnson, Dan (Janet) Doshan, and Vicki Cison; his five children, Melissa Rose, Scott Doshan, Amanda Amsel, Chelsea Doshan, and Craig (Chelsey) Doshan; his grandchildren Dawson Rose, Savannah Doshan, Angelia (Joey) Billings, and Ava Doshan; and his great-granddaughter, Lauralai Billings. He also leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews: Randy Johnson, Steve Johnson, Brent Doshan, Kelly Rushmeyer, Catie (Darek) Flaten, David Haack-Ruar, and many great-nieces and nephews whom he adored. John was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Mildred Doshan; brothers Joseph, David, and Gary; nieces Lena and Karen; Uncle Bobby; and his beloved fiance, Elsie Pescador. A private graveside service with full military honors will be held on Friday, September 5th, at Evergreen Cemetery in Brainerd. Family and friends are warmly invited to join us in celebrating Johns life on Saturday, September 6, from 1-6 p.m. at Arrowwood Lodge, 6967 Lake Forest Road, Baxter, MN. Together we will share memories, laughter, and love as we honor a life so fully lived.
