John Gettel Obituary John Frank Gettel, 70, of Brainerd, passed away on Thursday, July 11, 2024. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, July 16, 2024, at 10:00 a.m., at Nelson-Doran Funeral Home. Family and friends are invited to gather at 9:00 a.m. for visitation. John was born June 6, 1954, in Long Prairie, the son of Frank and Bernice (McIntyre) Gettel. He grew up in St. Cloud and after graduating from Apollo High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Army. John felt blessed to be stationed in Germany for five years it allowed him the opportunity to explore Europe while serving his country. When he returned home, he attended St. Cloud Technical College for automotive repair and worked many years as a Mechanic for Ideal Radiator. John was close with his mom, and when she died, he was heartbroken. He lost touch with his family for a bit but kept every photo or letter of communication. He liked to play guitar, bow hunt, and spend a few hours on the computer. He will be missed by his sister, Olive (William) Springborn; brother, Mark (Sheri) Gettel; stepson, Curt (Dawn) Richter; and stepdaughter, Sarah Ngo; and many grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; grandchildren Carrie Richter-Ngo and Ethan Ngo. A special thank you to Memories Hospice for their special care.
