John Hansen Obituary John Zola William Hansen passed away on Monday, November 11, 2024, in Brainerd after a year-long battle with cancer. John was born September 26, 1937, in Warman, Minnesota to Zola and Elsie (Swanson) Hansen. He attended Warman, Mora and Isle public schools, where he met Helen Embertsen when they were tenth graders. They were married December 14, 1957, at Isle Evangelical Free Church, and lived in Minneapolis while Helen finished her nursing degree. They moved to Brainerd in 1959, where John was employed by the Minnesota Highway Department for 38 years as a land surveyor and project surveyor. John and Helen were founding members of Lakewood Evangelical Free Church in Baxter. He had a mechanical mind and passion for old cars and tractors, and still enjoyed visiting with car club members. John remained in contact with many coworkers from his MnDOT career and appreciated the monthly breakfasts. He enjoyed bluegrass and country music, and never missed a son or daughters band concert. Family was a top priority for John, and the best times were when everyone gathered for meals, chats and kickball. He loved jokes, one-liners and the occasional prank, though he would say all he wanted was "peace and tranquility." John is preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Marilyn and Marge. He is survived by his wife of nearly 67 years, Helen; son, David (Tookta) Hansen of Faribault; daughters, Jan (Tom) Szajner of Cannon Falls, Caroline (Peter) Larson of Pine Island, and Patty (Steve) Eckdahl of Oronoco. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren and their spouses, and 19 great-grandchildren. The family rejoices that John is in heaven with his Savior. 'No eye has seen; no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love Him (1 Corinthians 2:9)." A Memorial Service is planned for Saturday, November 23, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. at Lakewood Church, 6284 Fairview Road, Baxter. Visitation will be one hour prior to service. Luncheon will follow service at the church. A Private family burial will take place at Oakwood Cemetery in Mora.
