Obituary

Julie M. Cossette, Brainerd, MN, born into eternal life February 11, 2026. She was at home surrounded by family, friends and prayer after a year long battle with cancer.

Julie was born into the world, June 11, 1960, in Duluth, MN. She was the eleventh of twelve children born to Lewis and Lucille Hagenbrock of Duluth, MN. After graduating from Duluth East High School in 1978, Julie began her work life at Bridgeman's restaurant in Duluth and later worked for Ground Round in the Twin Cities. While working at the Ground Round on the East Side of St. Paul, Julie met the love of her life, Tony Cossette. In 1987 Julie joined Tony in a move Lexington, Kentucky as he changed careers. Following in her mother's footsteps, Julie obtained an education that would help her begin a career as a Health Unit Coordinator. They married on January 9, 1988, at Don's Wedding Chapel in Lexington. A year later, they moved back to St. Paul, MN. In 1992 a career change for Tony brought them to Brainerd, MN. Julie was hired by St. Joseph's Medical Center where she worked as a Health Unit Coordinator until retiring in 2023.

Julie was dearly loved by many. She loved people, enjoyed traveling, sewing, flowers and gardening and loved her dogs (Shilo, Kandi, Bear, Kramer and Lilly). She so enjoyed the birds and wildlife that came to the yard, especially the Cardinals who were present, year-round. It takes a lot of seed to do that! Julie was known by many, especially co-workers, for fresh things from her gardens and food she loved to share. Her home, formerly an active family farm, is known as THE FARM, by family and friends. Julie was always open to entertaining, sharing country lifestyle, family celebrations and bonfires! She loved bonfires and the conversations that go on around them!

In 2018, Julie and Tony were married as Catholics at St. Andrews Catholic Church of Brainerd, a sign of growing faith in God and devotion to each other.

She is survived by her husband of 38 years, Tony Cossette; daughter Morgan (Tom) and grandchildren, Addy, Gunnar, Bowde and Jaysen; siblings, Jim (Betty), Jerry (Jan), Judy (John), Jean (Larry), JoAnne (Mike), Jeff (Barb), Joe (Sue), Jorge (Eileen), Janet (Duane) and Joyce (John). There are also many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews. Julie is preceded in death by her parents and her brother John.
