Karl Smith Obituary Karl William Smith, age 83, of Brainerd passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 1, 2024 at Bethany Good Samaritan in Brainerd. Funeral Services will be held at 2PM on Monday, February 5, 2024 at the Nelson-Doran Funeral Home in Brainerd. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home and interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Gardens, Brainerd. Karl was born April 21, 1940, at home on the Barbeau Road to Donald and Maggie (Larson) Smith. He worked in road construction his entire life, operating a rock crusher. Karl was an avid hunter and fisherman; and enjoyed playing Washers and cards. When he was winning in a game he would ask, "Did you feel me go by?" and then he would flash his big smile. Karl liked to joke and tease people and was unafraid to say what was on his mind. He was a welder, mechanic, electrician, and plumber; he could fix anything and everything. Karl loved country music. Karl is survived by his wife of 64 years, Marlene (Tautges) sons, Rob (Heavenly), Scott (Shiela); daughter, Gina (Todd) Smith; daughter-in-law, Ilene Smith; sister, Hazel Van Sickle; sisters-in-law, Donna and Marcia Smith. He adored his grandchildren; Zach, Chantel, Seth, Samone, Tom, Clay, Kacie, and Hayden; along with his 13 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Gaylin; parents; sisters, Della, Marilyn and Betty; brothers, Lee and Curt.
