Kathryn 'Kathie' Dunn (Schwagerl) Obituary Kathie Dunn, 84, of Brainerd, passed away peacefully on August 11, 2025, with her loving family by her side at Essentia Health St. Josephs Medical Center. Born on May 7, 1941, in Windom, Minnesota, Kathie was the beloved daughter of Theodore and Val (Blank) Kubesh. She grew up with a warm spirit and a ready smile, graduating from Scholastica High School in Duluth before beginning her career at JCPenney. Working behind the cosmetics and fine jewelry counters, Kathies warmth and kindness melded beautifully with her love of people, and she made every customer feel like a friend. In 1963, she married Mike Dunn, and together they raised three children before going their separate ways. Many years later, Kathie met George Schwagerl, and the seven years they spent together were some of her happiest: filled with laughter, shared adventures, and deep companionship. Kathies talents and joys were many. She loved to bake, sew, and tend her garden, her hands always busy creating something beautiful or delicious. She cherished time on the lake with her grandchildren, watching loons glide across the water, and spotting birds in the trees. Her home was a place of welcome, warmth, and wonderful smells from the kitchen. Kathie lived and encouraged others to livelife with a full heart. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and friend whose generosity of spirit touched everyone she met. She is survived by her son, Daniel (Fely) Dunn; daughters, Julie (Jeff) Benson and Kristina (Elmar) Dunn; grandchildren, Emma (fianc Jon Patterson) and Jack; and sister-in-law, Heather Kubesh. She was preceded in death by her husband, George; parents, Theodore and Val; and brothers, Larry and Jan. A celebration of Kathies life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, August 14, 2025, at St. Andrews Catholic Church in Brainerd. Family and friends are invited to gather one hour before Mass at the church. Interment will take place at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery near Camp Ripley.
