Kenneth Nelson Obituary Kenneth H. Nelson, age 89, resident of Brainerd, died Saturday, June 29th at Essentia - St. Joseph's Medical Center, in Brainerd. Ken was born May 20, 1924 in Brainerd to Anton and Susie (Johnson) Nelson. He attended school in Brainerd. Ken served with the U.S. Marines in the South Pacific during World War II. He married Shirley Brown March 20, 1948 in Brainerd. Ken was employed by the Burlington Northern Railroad for 43 years retiring in 1984. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and the D.A.V. Survivors include his wife Shirley of 65 years, one daughter Debbie (Rick) Kummet, a son-in-law Dale Sollid, five grandchildren: Alisa Sollid of Chicago, Ambre Sollid of Brainerd, Esme Kummet of Brainerd, Regan Kummet of Texas and Adian Kummet of Duluth, one great granddaughter QueAhnna Owens of Brainerd, one sister Edna Isle of Brainerd, many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents, one daughter Karen Sollid, two brothers, six sisters and two grandchildren. Services will be held 2:00 pm Monday, July 8th at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Brainerd with Reverend Hans Anderson officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in Brained with military honors. Visitation will be at church the hour before the service Monday.
