Kristine Nelson Obituary Kristine "Kris" Lee Nelson, age 63, resident of Baxter, died peacefully after an incredibly courageous battle with brain cancer on Wednesday, April 20, 2016 at Cuyuna Regional Care Center in Crosby.
Kris was born June 22, 1952 in Robbinsdale, Minnesota to Robert and Darlene (Tarnowski) Jacobs. She married Terry Nelson on March 30, 1974. Kris worked at CTC for 37 years as the Director of Human Resources where she retired in 2008. Kris was a 30+ year member of the American Legion Auxiliary holding many leadership roles on the Unit, Department, and National levels. She was elected 2011-2012 National President of the American Legion Auxiliary during the organizations 92nd National Convention. Governor Dayton declared September 1st 2011 "Kris Nelson Day" in the state of MN. In 2012 Kris was the Grand Marshall at the 4th of July Parade in Brainerd, MN. She was currently serving on the 2014-2019 American Legion Auxiliary Centennial Strategic Plan Implementation Team. Kris was a member of St Andrew's Catholic Church and St. Patrick's Guild. She also served as president and several years as a board member for the Crow Wing County United Way.
Kris enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren. She loved to travel, was an avid reader, loved camping, boating, and walking along the ocean.
Survivors include her husband, Terry Nelson, son, Troy (Angie) Nelson, daughter, Sarah (Kent) Swenson; 6 grandchildren, Myah, Ty, Kruze, Breck, McKenna, and Aria; 2 brothers and 2 sisters, Patti (Jerry) Hegdahl, Rob (Corrine) Jacobs, Rick (Fiona) Tarnowski and Angie (Stuart) Cleek along with several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her mother Darlene Tarnowski and stepfather, Art Tarnowski.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 30, 2016 at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Brainerd with Father Daniel Weiske officiating. Visitation will be held on Friday April 29, from 4-7p.m. at Nelson-Doran Funeral Home in Brainerd with a Rosary Service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue the hour prior to services at the church on Saturday. Burial will be in Baxter City Cemetery.
Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers.
