Fort Ripley

Obituary

Kyle Kenneth Tougas, age 59, of Fort Ripley, died on Friday, October 9, 2026, at his home.

Kyle was born to Ian and Gertrude (Holsapple) Tougas on October 11, 1966 in Brainerd.

A farm boy at heart, Kyle had a lifelong appreciation for hard work, horsepower, and just about anything with a motor. He spent 19 years working for Shafer Construction as a “The Fuel Man,” where his strong work ethic and willingness to lend a hand were never in short supply. While he loved anything that ran on gas, he had a special place in his heart for a different kind of horsepower—his team of Belgian horses, Chip and Dale. Kyle was known for his dry sense of humor and that familiar, up-to-no-good smirk. His favorite movie was The Straight Story, a fitting choice for a man who appreciated the simple things in life. Beneath his mischievous grin was a kind and generous heart. Kyle was the sort of man who would help anybody with anything, never expecting much in return. Above all, he was simply a good, hardworking man, and there is plenty to be said for that.

Kyle is survived by his wife of 23 years, Susan; siblings, Lori (Bob) Miller, Linda Tougas, Roland Tougas and Janet (Craig Billman) Tougas. He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Darrell Tougas.

Per Kyle’s wishes, no services will be held.
