Lona Hanson Obituary Lona Linda Hanson, 81, a lifelong resident of Brainerd, made a peaceful heavenly transition from her home on June 19, 2025, due to kidney failure that she was diagnosed with and defied the odds for over 12 years. She was the first child born to Peter and Linda Nelson on October 21, 1943. After graduating from Washington High School in 1961, she earned her Secretarial Degree from Brainerd Junior College. Lona was united in marriage with Terry Hanson on June 2, 1962. The couple adopted their baby girl, Darcy Lynn in 1966, who was undoubtedly the light of her life as anyone that met Lona heard about Darcy. The couple later divorced, and Lona began a long, successful career in Insurance. Starting as support staff for Prudential in 1979, within a few years she earned her license and took over for a retiring agent whose district was 33. From that point she was known as "Agent 33", receiving numerous awards in sales, achieved industry designations and presided as President of the Paul Bunyan Association of Life Underwriters from 1993-1994. Retiring from Prudential after 20 years, she continued her career at Bremer Bank in their insurance division for ten years. She missed the people and being busy so in her retirement years she worked at Baxter Insurance Group parttime for several years. Lona cherished those connections with coworkers as well as clients throughout all years of insurance, cultivated great friendships while being a Stanley Home Products dealer and stayed in touch with many of her WHS 1961 Classmates that met for monthly lunches over several decades. She is survived by her daughter, Darcy (Todd) Peterson of Lake Shore; brother, Gene (Connie) Nelson; nieces, Laura Moski and Molly (Jeff) Oberheim; nephew, Michael (Kelly) Nelson; five great-nephews; and three great-nieces, all located in the Rockford Illinois area. Lonas family is grateful for the wonderful hospice care received from Good Samaritan Society over the last year, Lona loved her MANY visits from Julie, Melody, Mary and mostly the granddaughter she never had Jordan (aka Little Miss Muffet) also her dedicated home caregivers that spent hours with her over last couple years, Dee Imgrund, Cindy Meierhofer and the Nicoles (Schwanbeck and Johnson).
