Margie Dewes Obituary Margie V. Dewes, age 89, passed away peacefully with her loving family at her side on June 5, 2024, at Edgewood Assisted Living in Baxter, MN. She was born May 23, 1935, in Griffith, IN to Eugene and Hettie Hardesty. She was united in marriage to Gilbert B. Dewes, Sr. at Holy Name Church in Cook, IN on June 13, 1953, and they shared 56 years of marriage until Gils passing in 2009. The couple moved to Brainerd, MN in 1958. In her mid-50s, Margie embarked on a career with Walmart where she worked in the pharmacy for 15 years until her retirement. She was a member of St. Christopher Church in Nisswa, MN and St. Francis Church in Brainerd, MN, and she participated in the St. Helena Guild. Margie possessed a gift for creating - sewing, and especially knitting. Her family and friends were blessed to be the recipients of hand-knitted slippers, sweaters, afghans, and prayer shawls. Among her interests, Margie enjoyed playing card and dice games. She was a devoted baseball fan and followed The Twins games on TV. She frequently traveled, visiting family in Indiana, Washington and California as well as a special pilgrimage tour to Israel with her sister Betty. Above all else, Margie was a dedicated homemaker, and she utilized her homemaking skills in raising her seven children - sewing clothes for her daughters (and their dolls), canning foods grown on their 80-acre farm, and creating memorable family holiday traditions. Margie is survived by her children Judy Jones, Kathy Dewes, Paula (Chip) Withrow, Betty (Jack) Nunes, Mary (Jess) Krick, Gilbert Jr. (Nicole) Dewes, and Patti Dewes; 17 grandchildren, and 20 great grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister Betty Smith, and three brothers Ron (Aileen) Hardesty, Bill (Janice) Hardesty, and Ed (Pam) Hardesty. Margie was preceded in death by her husband, parents, sisters Mary Ensweiler, Dorothy Scott, Helen Pear, Barbara Echterling and two infant siblings, brother Allard and sister Reta Jo. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 AM on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, at St. Francis Catholic Church, Brainerd. Visitation will be one hour prior to services on Tuesday at the church in Brainerd. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Nisswa. Arrangements have been entrusted to Nelson-Doran Funeral Home, Brainerd.
