Obituary

Mary 'Peggy' Larson Obituary Peggy (Mary Marjorie) Larson joined her Savior and those who have passed before her on September 7, 2024. She was born on May 26, 1924, in Duluth to Albert and Esther (Nelson) Olson. She graduated from Central High School in 1941, and then attended the College of St. Scholastica for 2 years. Peggy graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1945 with a degree in American history and Psychology. She met Larry C. Larson at the U of M, and the couple married on December 30, 1944. In January of 1950 they moved to Eagle Bend, MN where Larry established his dental practice. They spent many happy years there raising their four boys and being involved in community affairs. Peggy enjoyed working with the Cub and Boy Scouts, church activities, and camping with her family at their log cabin on Sand Lake, and canoe trips to the Boundary Waters. In 1968 the family moved to Brainerd when Larry accepted a position at the Brainerd State Hospital in the dental department. Peggy worked 2 years at Todd County and 17 years at Crow Wing County as a social worker and volunteer coordinator. Peggy was always a very positive person, with a strong faith. She loved to sing and had a beautiful soprano voice. She took up dancing in her later years, participating in the Geritol Frolics, a clogging group and a line dancing troupe. Family and friends enjoyed celebrating Peggys 100th birthday with her on May 26. Peggy is survived by her sons Jeff (Mark), Kim (Claudia), Rob (Beth), and Stephen (Julie Jo); grandchildren Shelly (Drew) Lowry, Laura (Nick) Fisher, Alex (Samantha), Joanna (Brandon Johns,) Sorina, and Morgan (Josh). Also 5 great grandchildren Brynn and Elsie Johns, Samuel Larson, Russell (Kailey) Lowry and Ethan (Tori) Lowry and their son (great-great grandson) Drew. Greeting Peggy in Heaven is her husband Larry, her parents, and brothers Donald and Gordon, as well as many close friends who have gone before her. Services will be held at Bethlehem Lutheran in Brainerd on Monday, September 30th, at 11:00a.m. with visitation one hour prior to this at 10:00a.m. Pastor Mark Skinner will officiate. Lunch will be served followed by interment at Evergreen Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to Nelson and Doran Funeral Home. Heartfelt thanks to the staff at Woodland Good Samaritan, who provided excellent care to Peggy for 6 years, to Bethlehem Lutheran Peggys long-term church home, and to Good Samaritan Hospice.
