Obituary

Nancy Walsh Obituary Nancy Marie Walsh, age 79, of Merrifield, passed away on February 27, 2022. Nancy was born in Chicago, IL on September 21,1942, to John and Virginia Peth. She married the love of her life, Steve Walsh, in 1965. She was a devoted wife and mother; and a dedicated Catholic school teacher in the Chicago area for over 25 years. In 2006, she and Steve moved to their vacation home on Bass Lake in Merrifield where they shared countless happy memories with their family and friends over the years. In her retirement, Nancy relished volunteering at St. Francis School in Brainerd, tutoring students and assisting teachers. She also devoted many hours volunteering at the womens shelter, as well as serving on their board. She touched many lives with her caring and compassion, taking every opportunity to serve God by serving others. She was an excellent cook and loved nothing more than to "feed" people in her kitchen - and everyone was welcome. Her greatest joy was reading to her grandchildren and sharing a root beer float on the dock. She will be dearly missed by so many, but we are comforted in knowing that, like the loons she loved, we will always find her at the lake. She was preceded in death by her father, John Peth; mother, Virginia Peth; and stepmother, Eileen (Merritt) Peth. She is survived by her devoted husband of 57 years, Steve; sons, John (Kathy), and Mark (Brenda); daughter, Jennifer; sister, Veronica Shanton; brothers, Jack Peth and Jim Peth; and 8 grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, March 4, 2022, at St. Francis Catholic Church in Brainerd. Family and friends are invited to gather one hour prior to Mass and stay for a luncheon to follow. Interment will be at a later date at Center Township Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Brainerd Area Womens Shelter P.O. Box 602, Brainerd, MN 56401 or St. Francis of the Lakes Catholic School.
