Paul James Metzen, age 62, died on Wednesday, July 1, 2026 at his home.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, July 10, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Francis Catholic Church in Brainerd. Family and friends are invited to gather for one hour prior. Interment will take place the following day, July 11, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Sleepy Eye.

Paul was born on March 12, 1964 to Ronald and Florence (Gulbrandson) Metzen in Wheaton. He graduated from Brainerd High School before earning his degree in education from Bemidji State University. Although trained as an educator, he built his career in manufacturing, working for BIC in Red Wing. Outside of work, Paul found joy in playing softball and golf, and he rarely missed the chance to cheer on his beloved Minnesota Vikings and Minnesota Twins. He will be remembered most for his kind, gentle spirit and mild manner. A devoted father, there was nothing he cherished more than his daughter. Though life dealt Paul more than his share of challenges, he faced them with remarkable grace, quiet strength, and unwavering humility. His resilience, compassion, and gentle heart left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.

Paul is survived by his daughter, Alison Metzen; parents, Florence and Ronald Metzen; one brother, Jon (Jennifer) Metzen; nephews, Jared, Jacob and Joseph Metzen; good friends and neighbors, Dave and Angel Mace and many other family members and friends. He is preceded in death by both his paternal and maternal grandparents.
