Rebecca Tanner Obituary Rebecca Jo Tanner, age 68, of Baxter, passed away peacefully and surrounded by family on June 11, 2018, in Essentia - St. Josephs Medical Center after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Born March 1, 1950, in Thief River Falls to Leland Curtiss and Dorothy Mae Lindberg, she grew up in Bloomington, attended school at Washburn Elementary and Penn Junior High, and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1969. As a teen, Becky enjoyed fashion, sewing, and social events. She served on the Teen Board for Daytons Department store. Soon after graduation, she married John Thomas Tanner, with whom she had three beautiful daughters. The Brainerd Lakes area was her home for 13 years as she cared for her children, volunteered for Meals on Wheels and Mrs. Jaycees, and made numerous friends. She and John later divorced, and Becky returned to Bloomington with her girls. Becky earned her B.A. degree in Organizational Management and Communication from Concordia University in St. Paul in 1995 and worked for several companies in various administrative, secretarial, or sales capacities. In 2003, she began employment at Ceridian Corporation where she was an Account Executive until her retirement in 2016. Becky had a passion for nature. She loved walking around the ponds near her home, identifying bird calls, and spotting local wildlife. Her well groomed gardens spoke for themselves: flower beds filled with spring bulbs, landscapes full of texture and color, and multiple varieties of lilac bushes and lily of the valley lining the pathways. Becky had a knack for entertaining and hosting holidays and events. She enjoyed cooking traditional family favorites, but she especially liked to bake. She was always on a endless search for the perfect tart lemon bar with a flakey buttery crust. French pastries called to her from quaint cafes, and she admired the arts and different cultures. Becky loved theater and seeing Broadway shows, always had a stash of Dove chocolates close at hand, and found her way to neighborhood hardware stores where she discovered the coolest gadgets to share with her son-in-laws. An avid traveler, she enjoyed vacations to Europe, Costa Rica, St. Johns, and Florida as well as weekly trips to Costco. Becky cherished her girlfriends and close friendships. Above all else, she absolutely loved being a grandmother and treasured her grandchildren. She was a great caretaker and thoughtful gift giver. Becky had a talent for details and made each person feel special. Her smile and positive outlook beamed on those around her. Preceded in death by her parents, Becky is survived by her three daughters, Nicole Harmer and her husband Bart of Baxter, Stephanie Anderson and her partner Jeff of Crosslake, and Tanya Boderck and her husband Stephen of Eagle, CO; grandchildren, Cole, Camille, Tyson, and Hudson; sisters, Deborah (Ly) and Patricia; brothers, Mark (Sharon) and Dale, and numerous other beloved family and friends. Memorial services will be held on Monday, June 18, at Lord of Life Lutheran Church in Baxter with a visitation at 10 AM followed by services at 11 AM. Arrangements are provided by Nelson-Doran Funeral Home. The family welcomes memorial donations to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (www.pancan.org) or the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum (arboretum.umn.edu). Visitation will begin at 10 am at the church.
