Richard Quill Obituary Richard (Rick) Allen Quill was born March 16th, 1958, the third son of Oren and Phyllis (Reyerson) Quill in Havre, Montana. The family moved to Minnesota and settled in Paynesville, MN where Oren was the president of the local bank. Rick spoke several times of time spent golfing with his father as one of his favorite memories as a Quill son. Rick graduated in 1976 from Paynesville High School. He drove semi-truck for almost 10 years seeing most of the lower 48 states before joining the Air Force. During Ricks time in the Air Force he was stationed in Japan, Korea, Italy, England and Saudi Arabia before returning state side and retiring in Aurora, Colorado in 2005. Rick was proud of the work he did with the NSA while serving his country. Looking through the numerous files and framed commendations I believe they were pleased with his service also. After retirement Rick moved to the St. Cloud area to be closer to family. He worked at Columbia Gear for a short time before returning to college in 2010 to seek a second career, ultimately choosing the counseling field. I met Rick in college during the worst class of my entire 4 years, Statistics. While I took the class over Rick passed with flying colors. I often say he was the only good thing that came out of that class and taking it over was worth it. A wonderful friendship flowered between two people not searching for a partner in life. Rick graduated in 2014 and began working for the Social Security Administration in St. Cloud. When a position became available in Baxter, he jumped at the chance to move to the place we spent so many afternoons riding motorcycle, the Brainerd Lakes area. We found a home in a beautiful development not far from work with lots of trees and the cedar siding Rick loved. He called it our slice of heaven. We were married at our slice of heaven on August 19th, 2019 in a beautiful simple ceremony surrounded by family and friends who helped us pull it off on short notice. Rick was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in May of this year after being sick for several months and doctoring to find resolution. He battled valiantly but the cancer had a head start by the time we sought treatment after the diagnosis. Rick was at home until the last 5 days when we started hospice in Blaine. He passed away peacefully on September 18th, 2019. He worked at Social Security until his death. I miss him every day. I wish we had more time. More bike rides, more driving through neighborhoods and looking at landscaping. More Friday night date nights with a movie, pizza and his amazing popcorn. We made the most of the days after his diagnosis. Rick wanted people to know how God had worked in his life since the diagnosis and shared the strength Jesus Christ gave us on the journey. I have never been prouder of Rick. He was helping others right up to the end, one of his many natural gifts. Thank you to everyone who is here or has contributed to our lives in any way.
