Ronald Bird Obituary Ronald Marvin Bird made his final transition to eternity in the early morning hours of February 10, 2025. Ron was born on August 4, 1938, in Cumberland, WI to Wilbur and Grace Bird. He was third of four boys. In 1956, Ron enlisted in the Navy and was stationed in the Pacific theatre testing atomic weaponry. After that, he was an EMT for Hennepin County General Hospital (now HCMC) before becoming a police officer for the City of Minneapolis in 1968. He faithfully served and protected until his retirement in 1993. Ron married Jackie, the love of his life, in 1989. Together they were very active and enjoyed traveling on cruises, road trips in their motorhome, and doing antique shows with friends and family. Their kids and grandkids will never forget all the wonderful family cruises to Alaska, the Caribbean, and Mexico. Family was so important to him, and he was very proud of his. Ron always gave thanks to God for saving him after a close call in the Navy that no one aboard his ship thought he would survive. Serving the country he loved and becoming a police officer were always his dream, his passion. He was a very sincere, benevolent, generous, and joyful man with a keen sense of humor, and he always made the people around him feel safe, important, and truly loved. Ron is survived by his loving wife, Jackie; his children, Christine (Dave) and Erik (Tracy); grandchildren, Dustin (Chelsea), Mercedes (Tom), Meranda (Austin); great grandchildren, Wesley and Scottie; his brothers Danny (Robin) and Brad (Sharon); and many other treasured family and friends. Ron was predeceased by his parents, Wilbur and Grace, and his little brother, Kenny. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, from 4-6pm, at the Nelson-Doran Funeral Home in Brainerd. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 20, 2025, at 11am at Timberwood Church in Nisswa, with a visitation beginning at 10am.
