Sylvia Thomas Obituary Sylvia Catharine (Metzger) Thomas passed away peacefully on January 16th at her home in Pillager, MN. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 am Tuesday, January 28th at St. Andrew's Catholic Church with Fr. Gabriel Waweru officiating. Burial will be in the Wildwood Cemetery in Pillager. Visitation times are Monday, January 27th from 4-7:00pm at the Nelson-Doran Funeral Home and Tuesday one hour prior to Services at the Church. Sylvia was born August 25th 1940 in Mount Carmel, North Dakota to Arthur and Julia (Hell) Metzger. She was married to Gerald E. Thomas of Mpls, MN on November 29th, 1958, in St. Cloud, MN. She was a wonderful mother, dedicated wife and full of compassion for others. She spent many years working in education in Mounds View, MN and several years as the Crisis Line Referral Service coordinator in the Brainerd Lakes Area. In the later years she spent time as a substitute teacher, helping out at Pillager and Brainerd schools and volunteering at St. Andrews Catholic Church in Brainerd, MN. She loved to travel, spend time doing crafts with her grandchildren along with spoiling them. She and dad loved to spend time outside on the porch swing enjoying the beautiful days and watching the local wildlife. Sylvia was preceded in death by her mother and father; sister Grace Budnick; brothers Everett and David Metzger; grandson Kyle Thomas; great-grandson James Martin. She is survived by her husband Jerry Thomas; sons Darrel (Tracey), Doug (Julie), Mike, Mark (Tami) and Joe (Larae); Sister Audrey Pokela; brother Jerry (Cheryl) Metzger. She had eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
