Obituary

“

Many of his best problem-solving ideas began on a napkin.

William "Bill" Gary Morcomb, a beloved brother, husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away on October 22, 2026, at the age of 85 while residing at Redeemer Health Care Center in Minneapolis. He will be remembered as a man who always had a project underway, an adventure ahead, and people he cared about to share it with.

Bill was born on December 24, 1940, in Green Bay, Wisconsin, and remained a lifelong Packers fan. He spent his youth in Brainerd and Eagle Bend, Minnesota, and attended Eagle Bend High School.

Bill began his career in heavy equipment sales and later owned and operated Wil-Mor Trucking.

In retirement, Bill spent winters in Yuma, Arizona. It was there that he met the love of his life, Patty Carter. They were married on May 17, 2008, and shared 18 years of marriage before Patty's passing on July 17, 2026. Their life together was filled with adventure and travel. Each year, they spent summers in Missouri and Minnesota, making memories with family and friends. Their families found comfort in the companionship, joy, and many adventures they shared together.

Bill and Patty filled their retirement years with travel, buggy riding, and a shared passion for collecting rocks and minerals. Bill built display cases illuminated with black lights to showcase the fluorescent minerals in their growing collection. Their home was a welcoming gathering place where family and friends enjoyed many memorable visits and potluck celebrations.

An outdoorsman at heart, Bill enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, and riding motorcycles. He loved sports, especially racing, and took great pride in watching his sons, Stephen and Mark, race dirt bikes. Later, he cheered on his stepson, Paul, as he raced. If it had wheels, tracks, or a motor, it was likely to catch Bill's interest. He could often be found in his shop tinkering, adjusting, and fine-tuning his buggies.

Bill was happiest when his hands were busy and a project was underway. Many of his best problem-solving ideas began on a napkin.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Georgena Morcomb; his wife, Patty Marie Carter-Morcomb; and his brothers-in-law, Burnell Rekstad and Billy Graphenteen.

He will be lovingly remembered by his children, Stephen (Dawn), Mark (Sue), Yvonne, and Michelle (Drew) Pierce; 13 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings, Donna Jean Rekstad, Marian Graphenteen, Judy Morcomb, Kathy (Gary) Thompson, Don (Bonnie) Morcomb, Sue (Rick) Nelson, Roberta (Duane) Grewe, Brad (Darby) Morcomb, and Dale (Sheila) Morcomb.

Additional survivors include Patty's children, Paul (Bev) Carter and LaDonna (Chris) Vaughan, along with her four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Bill also leaves behind many other relatives and friends.

A visitation will be held on Friday, November 6, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. at Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church, 418 8th Avenue NE, Brainerd, Minnesota. A luncheon will follow, with burial afterward at Evergreen Cemetery in Brainerd, where Bill will be laid to rest beside his parents.  The service will be livestreamed.  When the link is available, it will be posted.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the American Diabetes Association in Bill's memory.

During his time at Redeemer Health Care Center, visits from family surrounded Bill with familiar faces and love. His family is deeply grateful to the care team at Redeemer for their compassion and dedicated care.

Those who loved Bill will forever cherish memories of time spent with him and Patty. He will be deeply missed.
