Ardyce Johnson Obituary

Ardyce Johnson, 87, peacefully joined her husband, Charles, on Saturday, August 28, 2021, at St. Otto’s Care Center.

Ardyce Elaine was born November 11, 1933, in Brainerd, the daughter of William and Edna (Birkeland) Brockman.  She graduated from Brainerd High School in 1951.  She continued her education at St. Cloud Teacher’s College and graduated in 1955.  Ardyce met the love of her life, “Chas” and on June 23, 1956, she married Charles Johnson.  The couple was blessed with six children and over 50 years of marriage.  Ardyce was known for her sweet tooth, playing Boggle and doing crosswords.  She also enjoyed watching old films, reading books, and listening to Frank Sinatra.  She was witty, had a nickname for everyone she knew, and appreciated her friendships and family.  Her cookie jar was truly always full.

Left to cherish Ardyce’s memory are her children, Richard “Jug” Johnson, of Brainerd, Nikki (Cary) Shoutz, of Backus, Tom (Jackie) Johnson, of Brainerd, Betsy Norman, of Pillager, Eddie Johnson, of Fridley, and Laurie (Jeff) Schellin, Baxter; grandchildren, Erin Christensen, Heather Baral, Brady Schellin, William Hollinbeck, Charles Hollinbeck, Marah Johnson, Amanda Hommes, Bryce Johnson, and Emma McCulley; and 10 great-grandchildren (two born this week!)  She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; brothers, Edward, James, and Donald, sisters-in-law, Kathleen, Phyllis, and Marilyn Brockman and Shirlie (Johnson) Weagley; son-in-law, David Norman; nephews, Bill and Philip; and niece, Kathy.

The funeral services for Ardyce will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, September 2, 2021, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Brainerd.  A visitation will be held one hour prior.  Reverend Joyce Rush will officiate. The family invites friends to join them for lunch at the American Legion in Brainerd following the service.  Any memorials could be directed to Alzheimer’s Association to a team made in honor / memory of Ardie - https://act.alz.org/site/TR?team_id=662777&pg=team&fr_id=14564
