Berniece Sophie (Kraemer) Wehrs passed away on Sunday, October 8, 2023, at Essentia Health - St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Brainerd. She was born April 12, 1938, in Ottertail County, the oldest of Dell and Edith Kraemer’s four children. She grew up in Park Rapids, and later Brainerd where she graduated from high school where she began playing the Alto Sax. Music was important to Berniece and dancing was one of her favorite pastimes. She continued her education and earned a degree in nursing. She worked as an LPN for St. Joseph Hospital and the state hospital (Regional Human Services Center). On October 15, 1960, she married the love of her life, Frederick Wehrs. Berniece’s family was the cornerstone of her life, and she adored her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She loved being around people and had a strong Faith. As the end of her life approached, the love and support she received from her family and friends brought happiness to her face and warmed the hearts of everyone.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Frederick Wehrs; son, Steven (Hilary) Wehrs; grandsons, Tony (Kirsten), David (Carrie), Kristopher (Brittany), Michael; son, Daniel (Tracey) Wehrs, grandsons, Kevin (Sigourney), Ryan (Haley); son, Michael Wehrs, granddaughter, Cassie (Josh) Meyer, grandson, Alex (Erin); 12 great grandchildren; brothers, Bruce (Jan) Kraemer and Jim (Heidi) Kraemer; and sister, Joan (Wes) Hradsky. She was preceded in death by her parents.
A Celebration of Berniece’s Life will be held at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, October 28, 2023, at Nelson – Doran Funeral Home in Brainerd. Family and friends are welcome to gather one hour prior to services. In memory of Berniece, although flowers are wonderful, her family asks you to just be kind to people, enjoy family and friends, and always be present.
