Carolyn was born on May 10, 1930 to Ernest and Ester (Johnson) Skoog in Sauk Rapids. She graduated from Sauk Rapids High School and later, St. Cloud State Teacher’s College where she earned her Bachelors degree. She taught elementary children at a number of schools, including in Starbuck, Milaca, St. Cloud District 39, Ogilvie, Pine Center, Pillager, and subbed for the Brainerd School District. She ended her educational career serving 8 years with the Child Development Program at Brainerd Community College (now Central Lakes College).
Carolyn gave her time generously to family and to her community. She was a faithful member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church of Brainerd where she participated in numerous activities including large and small group Bible studies, the BLC Women, Bethel Bible Series, 80+ Lunch Bunch, Young at Hearts, and Sarah’s Circle. In addition, she volunteered her time in positions such as Youth Choir Director, Church Council, confirmation leader, and Catechism Ministry Senior Mentor. Other volunteer work and hobbies in the community included her many years with the Sons of Norway (often serving in executive positions), Meals on Wheels, and the Crow Wing County Genealogy Society.
Tracing her ancestry was a tenacious passion and with the help of her nephew even published a two-volume family history picture book. She enjoyed watching the flowers grow in her garden, singing church hymns, birdwatching, baking, traveling, and passing on family traditions, especially those reflecting her Scandinavian heritage/culture to her kids and grandkids. Carolyn was not only a caregiver to her kids and grandkids but she was also known as being a “room mother” or “second mom” to many of her kids’ friends as well.
She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Raymond; her three children, Brian (Connie) Frisch, Brad (Beth) Frisch and Kari (Diane Anderson) Frisch; five grandchildren, Brandon Frisch, Brianna (Hans Schutt) Frisch, Sarah Frisch, Travis Nielsen and Nicholas Frisch.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Jean Ferguson; and three brothers, Eddie, Arnold, and Allan Skoog.
