Doris Brusseau Obituary

Doris Lucille (Flansburg) Brusseau, loving and devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great, great grandmother passed away on Monday, May 3, 2021 at the age of 99.

Doris was born in St. Paul to Earl and Ernestine Flansburg on September 28, 1921. She grew up on the family farm in St. Mathias, attended country school and then graduated from Brainerd High School in 1939. Doris married Ray Brusseau on June 20, 1940 at St. Mathias Catholic Church.

As her children grew up, Doris enjoyed her work as a switchboard operator at the Brainerd State Hospital. She took pleasure in traveling the U.S. and Canada in their travel trailer. Europe and Hong Kong were other destinations where she traveled. Doris was very fond of playing cards, gardening, especially flowers, baking and cooking. Everyone looked forward to her, made from scratch, meals. Everything she made was outstanding! Doris was a member of the Brainerd Legion Auxiliary and volunteered each year for the poppy program. As a member of St. Mary Margaret’s Guild, she baked many cakes for funerals and helped in the kitchen also.

This wonderful, kind, saintly lady who never spoke an unkind word about anyone was preceded in death by her loving husband of 72 years; her parents; sister, Lorraine Bourassa; brother, Roland Flansburg and a great granddaughter, Lauren Pawlowski.

Left to cherish her memory are her 5 children, Larry (Jean), JoAnn (Paul) Zemke, Marilyn (Tom) Hall, Mike (Kari) and Sue (Rob) Jewell; 12 grandchildren, Larry Brusseau, Sherry Anderson, John Zemke, Kelly Naughton, Matt Zemke, Julie Pawlowski, Jodie Hall, Nick Brusseau, Allie Brusseau, Jera Powell, Meagan Jewell and Kelsey Cornwell; 17 great grandchildren and one great, great granddaughter.

Mass of Christian burial will be on Tuesday, May 11, 2021 at St. Francis Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m. A visitation will be held on Monday, May 10th at Nelson-Doran Funeral Home from 5-7 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to mass on Tuesday at 10 a.m. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to St. Francis of the Lakes Catholic School.

Doris’ family wishes to thank Deacon Tom and Jeanne Freece, St. Croix Hospice, Diamond Willow, especially Denise Anderson for all their kindness and compassionate care.
